I should have posted about this a couple months ago , but as you can see from about October till now i haven't really posted. Hey, Life with a toddler gets crazy!!
Anyways, In on of my older posts i talked about my sisters awesome baby shower and how i was a tad jealous well...
Just a couple weeks later my sister gave birth to Colten at just 27 weeks due to her incompetent cervix, she had a cerclage put in but her water broke and they were worried about infection and Colten becoming stressed so they decided to deliver by emergency c-section, of course i was in Cali and had to wait for calls to know how everything was going. Colten was born at 2lbs 4oz and was doing really great in the beginning just like Emery he didn't need much assistance with breathing! Then things started to go downhill, it seemed like one problem after the next after the next and my sister and Jon weren't getting any answers. Last year when Emery was in the Nicu my sister came out and stayed with us for almost 3 weeks, i was so happy to have her there and i really think it prepared her for this. It is now March 25th and Colten is still in the Nicu over 100 days in the hospital...but we finally got word that he will be coming home Tuesday!!
I am so happy that my sister and Jon will finally be able to bring their little man home!
My sister and i have always had an amazing bond but the experience of both of us having preemies has brought us even closer.
I can't wait for Emery to meet her baby cousin, even thought it won't be for a little while...

The little green dot....
Last night i found myself awake, staring at the little green dot on Emery's baby monitor...this isn't unusual in fact it has happened nearly every night since she came home. Although our rooms are only separated by the bathroom, i feel better when i can hear every blip,burp,cough and hiccup..or silence. The little green dot gives me comfort it says to me that everything is alright.
I have found myself lying awake a lot more over the last week, because we found out last tuesday that J is deploying in May. Last night as i stared at the little green dot, i wished that there was a little green dot that would tell me everything was okay while he is away. I wish there was just some sign that told me yep he's doing good, everything is calm. I know there isn't anyway for me to know for sure unless i am talking to him, but a gal can wish right.
This deployment snuck up on us completely and i feel completely unprepared and i feel like i am spiraling out of control, everyday i wake up with a new batch of unanswered questions...questions that won't have answers until he deploys.
Will Emery forget about her daddie?
Will she be mad that he isn't around?
Will Emery get sick of me?
Will i be able to play the role of both mommy and daddy?
Will i fall apart when i don't wake up next to him?
How will i pull myself out of bed in the morning?
Will he feel the same about me when he returns?
The list goes on...
I hope that i am a good enough mommie for Emery while her daddy is away and i hope that i dont fall apart, but only time will tell and 7 weeks go by to fast.. and we will miss him so much.

The dirty on cloth diapers...
Sorry for the lack of updates, life has been busy...
I'm doing a special post on cloth diapers today for an expecting mommy!
Anyways, Most of you know i cloth diaper, maybe from the pictures of Emmies fluffy butt plastered all over face book or maybe from BBC!
I'm going to cover some basics on cloth diapering..
Of course many people think cloth diapering is just the simple piece of cloth (now known as a prefold or flat) with Pins and plastic pants...well CD'ing has come a long long way!
There are many different types for every walk of life..
Aios, fitteds, pockets,hybrids,prefolds..the list goes on.
An AIO is a diaper that is basically like a disposable in how easy it is to use, it has the diaper and cover in one and goes on like a disposable with velcro or snaps...i recommend these for stay at home dads, and daycare providers because they are idiot proof!! Most of the time these are One size fits all with snaps that make it suitable for babies of all sizes (although most say it doesn't fit at the newborn stage) a great AIO is bum genius or fuzzi buns
A fitted diaper is a diaper that needs a cover.. which makes the diaper 2 parts.. Although some do allow there child to wear a fitted without a cover around the house because they are very absorbent!! Some great fitteds are Bagshot row bamboo, and goodmama's there are alot more great fitteds i just can't think!
Pocket diapers have an opening that allows you to add more inserts for more absorbency these are GREAT for toddlers or heavy wetters in general, some pockets need covers others have a waterproof outer..
Hybrids are a great option for anyone who is trying to test the waters of cloth diapering its actually how i started.. these types of diapers allow you to use either disposable inserts or cloth. We started with g diapers which has a shell with a snap in waterproof liner and either a flushable insert or a cloth insert! Another great one is Grobaby now these are wonderful and super absorbent they are also one size which is great for moms on a budget..the best thing about the hybrid diapers is the shell can be used again and again with new inserts, meaning less laundry and less cost! I have also heard great things about Flips i haven't tried them myself but have friends who swear by them!!

Best part is now you no longer need to use pins there is a fabulous product called Snappis that allow you to fasten the diaper without pins, saving both your baby and yourself from unnecessary pin pricks..and the waterproof covers have come along way both bummis and Thirsties make excellent covers with cute colors and prints!!
Onto washing cloth diapers, now this is where most people get grossed out or turned off by the idea of cloth diapering but i assure you it is much easier then it may seem! When washing any cloth diaper you have to use a detergent that is free and clear of any fragrance,dyes or enzymes. There are also detergents you can buy off line for cloth diapers....but if your like me ordering online can get annoying... I use all free and clear or seventh generation free and clear and they both work great!!
If your baby is exclusively breast fed the entire diaper poop and all can go straight in the wash since breast milk poo is completely water soluble! When your baby gets older and starts to eat solids you just dump the poo in the toilet and then wash the diaper... If your extremely grossed out by this you can get a diaper sprayer that hooks up to your toilet and has a high stream of water that blasts the poo into the toilet!
Many people have different wash routines for there diapers but i have found that it is all preference...The key is to basically have the diapers smell like nothing, not like pee and not like soap! Most people do a few extra rinses to ensure all detergent is out.

The green eyed monster that is me..
I try not to write about myself to often.. I am not very interesting.
But today i will share a side of myself to you all that I am not proud of.
My sister is pregnant and throwing an AWESOMELY huge baby shower..and I'm jealous. So GOD DAMN jealous.. I'm jealous for so many reasons, some are petty, some i guess are a bit normal.. (i hope) .. We had our baby shower planned for November back in Ohio.. We were supposed to be going home then for thanksgiving and have the shower the Saturday after thanksgiving.. Invites were sent, decorations were bought, people had RSVP'd..
But.. Emery came before then. So no baby shower..
Everyone tried to make it right by sending gift cards and congratulation cards..but it wasn't right.
as my sister refers to it (we were robbed).. in a way i feel like we were.. and not of gifts or anything like that.. but of those moments.. measuring the belly, laughing about how i couldn't see my feet, guessing her weight.. all those things every mom wants..
There were so many things i wanted to do before Emery came rapidly into the world.. I wanted to plaster cast my belly, i wanted to have a 3d ultrasound... I wanted to be ready.
..
Emery's birthday is rapidly approaching..and i still feel guilty and jealous , very jealous of women who had no complications, could breastfeed to this one year mark.. I hope one day i will have answers as to why she came so early, but until then i will be thankful to God for letting me experience this miracle and remember he picked me to be a preemie mom because he knew i was strong enough.
I can not wait to meet baby Colten and i could not be more excited for my sister and Jon. They deserve this so much..They will be amazingly wonderful parents..

Packing for a preemie..
Our trip home is rapidly approaching.. and I am the biggest procrastinator in the world. I'm not kidding. Since having Emery i have gotten a bit better, I am just more planned out now, My calender is filled up with appointments, calls..just about everything. I now make lists for big trips, because if i dont i will forget something, Hell even with a list i forget stuff ..
I sat down to make Our list starting with my list first.. Pretty basic clothes, shoes, make up, hair stuff.. THE END.. I make Emerys.. Cloth diapers, shoes, monitors, teething tablets, tylenol, blankets, hoodies, womb bear, sling.. the list pretty much grows.. And dont get me started on whats going into the diaper bag.. well ill give you a hint HAND SANITIZER, HAND SANITIZER oh and um MORE HAND SANITIZER. .. With swine flu and the start of RSV season right around the corner you can never be to careful which is why Emery will be accompanied by a sign from Synagis reading "Wash your hands before touching mine" although i would rather it say.. Please don't fucking touch me.. but well um. .. The Christian in me says thats not a very good idea. You see people are very attracted to Emery , The minute someone looks at her she flashes that adorable smile and it just hypnotizes people. My daughter has this charm that even i cant explain. .. I do not know where she got that from.
Today for example, we were at souplantation for dinner, Emery was in her highchair eating some of my mac and cheese and a blueberry muffin when this woman came up to me from clear across the restaurant, to tell me she had been watching my beautiful daughter eat and she has never seen a more happy baby, she said "she seems so loved" Indeed she is.. She proceeded to tell me how gorgeous Emery was and how sweet i was and then sat back down.. not more then 5 minutes later she was back up to talk to us again. She asked her age and told us that Emery's smile made her heart flutter , and that she fell in love with my daughter, and said "she should be in commercials" I smiled and said thank you. This usually happens anytime we go out, but most people arent so polite they will touch her stroke her hair let there kids touch her.. and I am usually very sweet and dont say anything but with this rsv season rapidly approaching..I am taking every precaution... Even if i have to be rude.

Daddy's little girl
J has had an awesome schedule the past 2 weeks..
The Friday before memorial day he got off at noon and he was home until Wednesday at noon.. since he was on the range for grass week Thursday and Friday he got home around 11 ..
Well Emmie is a Daddies girl through and through.. While he was home she absolutely REFUSED to take her naps.. For about the past month during her naps i would lay her in her crib awake and she would fall right to sleep without fussing (AWESOME) well when dad was home she decided that this was no longer the case. She would cry and because I do not believe a baby should be left to cry of course we instantly got her and the only way she would fall asleep was to be rocked by DADDY while she held onto his finger.. the minute he stopped rocking her she would wake up... I really thought that are awesome routine that took me months to establish had just went down the drain.. I was dreading today when Daddy had to go back to work full time especially this week because he is on the range he has to be up by 3:30 am and wont be home until 4:30 or 5 pm... Luckily Emery fell right back into her normal routine with me today once again (AWESOME) She woke up at 9 and had some oatmeal and milk for breakfast.. she had her indpendent play time and her mommy play time and then at 11:30 was ready for her nap. she slept until about 1 at 2 She had lunch chicken and noodles and some apple juice and then half a bottle and now she is taking another nap... Emery really knows how to surprise me and i love that about her.
